Yuzhong 08 electric SUV rolling off the production line

VW–XPeng’s first co-developed EV, Yuzhong 08, rolls off the line in China

Volkswagen Group China and XPeng said their first co‑developed EV—the full‑size Yuzhong 08 SUV—entered mass production at Volkswagen Anhui on March 13, 2026, marking a key milestone for VW’s “In China, for China” strategy. The companies said the vehicle moved from the joint development agreement to production in 24 months, underscoring an accelerated localization cycle as joint‑venture brands try to regain EV momentum in China.

Yuzhong 08 is positioned as VW’s first brand model on an 800‑volt SiC high‑voltage platform with a CLTC range above 700 km. The SUV measures 5,000/1,954/1,672 mm with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, placing it in the full‑size segment and signaling a push toward higher‑spec EV architectures among legacy JV brands.

What has changed is that the VW–XPeng partnership has moved from a technology pact to a production vehicle, while VW says it aims to launch about 20 locally developed NEV models in 2026, averaging a new EV roughly every two weeks. What may follow is a faster‑cycling product cadence across JV lineups and tougher competition with Chinese EV leaders on pricing, smart features, and charging performance.
